Waves: Introduction
What is a wave?
A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy.
Medium is substance or region though which a wave is transmitted.
Speed of waves depend on the properties of the medium.
Waves that can be transmitted without a medium are called electromagnetic waves e.g. Light waves
Waves that need medium for its transmission are called mechanical waves e.g. Sound waves
Transverse waves are when the energy of the waves are perpendicular to its direction e.g. Light waves.
Longitudinal waves are when the energy of the waves are in the same direction with its direction e.g. sound waves.
